Claude Fossoux

(French, b. 1946) 

Claude Fossoux’s shimmering, spring-like works of art create an effect both vibrant and joyous, and evoke a sense of peace and tranquility as he captures Earth’s natural beauty. He is particularly adept at capturing multiple textures through a fresh color palette of airy and sparkling colors. His handling of light is also extraordinary. One might feel that the light is alive in his paintings, seeming to come from within the canvas. His subjects are inspired by everyday life and include café terraces, young women decorated with flowers and ribbons, and children outside in spacious parks or gardens; gentle moments dripping with a serene and precious energy. The Impressionist movement primarily inspires Fossoux’s style. Fossoux fuses techniques of Claude Monet, founder and master of French Impressionism and Jan Van Eyck, the legendary 15th century Flemish master to create his own signature style. Influences by Impressionists Sisley, Pissarro, and Renoir are also visible in his work.

Fossoux was born in Paris, France, in 1946. After finishing school, he received a grant to attend École Nationale Supérieure Des Beaux Arts where he studied for four years. During his studies, he frequented the studio of Chapelain-Midy and Pierre Carron. He continues to paint today and his work is highly esteemed by American and European collectors.
